Location: Pleasant Hill, OR

Length: Long Term: 1 year with option of renewal for an additional year (currently this residency is by invitation only; inquiries are welcome)

Housing: A furnished tiny house with a small kitchen, bed and small wood stove. The resident house is located a short walk away from the studio.

Kilns:

  • 4 — electric kilns

  • 1 — 60 cubic foot two-chambered wood, biodiesel and salt kiln

  • 1 — 10 cubic foot Anagama

  • 1 — 30 cubic foot wood/biodiesel soda kiln

  • 1 — 25 cubic foot wood/biodiesel train kiln

  • 1 — 7 cubic foot test wood kiln

Funding/Stipend: None

Workspace: Personal studio with a desk, wood stove, a large amount of table space and storage. The studio has windows overlooking a vast field and distant mountains

Responsibilities: Residents are asked to assist Pleasant Hill Pottery in a variety of tasks for 15 hours/week as work trade. If two residents come in as a couple, the residency work trade between the two artists is raised to 20 hours/week (10 hours/week for each resident). This work includes physical work as well as land and facilities care.

  • Located on 10 acres just outside of Eugene, OR

  • Pleasant Hill Pottery has a “work hard, play hard; learn a lot, fire a lot, do a lot” expectation. There are a lot of wood kilns to utilize as well as an extensive collection of tools and equipment. If an artist has an idea to make or do something, there are the resources to get it done at PHP.

  • Two large art sales on the property twice a year

  • Fruit trees are abundant on the property including apple, pear, plum, peach, cherry. Mushrooms have also been harvested from around the property including oyster and shitake.

  • There is a wood fire sauna, an outdoor shower and an outdoor shower available for relaxing and recharging

  • A large garden is maintained by the owners of Pleasant Hill Pottery where residents are encouraged to assist and learn more about gardening no matter what level of knowledge the resident possesses as long as there is interest. There is also a greenhouse present where many succulents and other heat loving plants reside.
