Jackie Sedlock Pottery
This residency is privately owned and directed by Jackie Sedlock, set on her stunning property in Pownal, Vermont. Jackie is a warm, personable, and passionate potter eager to share her experience and studio with fellow ceramic artists. The residency offers a retreat-like atmosphere, surrounded by wooded nature, walking trails, and nearby mountains — a truly inspiring environment for focused artistic work.
Resident housing is provided in a fully furnished, shared guesthouse situated above the studio. The guesthouse features four private bedrooms, one bathroom, a spacious kitchen, and a comfortable dining/lounge area. Jackie and her husband personally built the studio and guesthouse with help from friends. The craftsmanship is evident throughout, and it’s clear Jackie has thoughtfully designed every detail to ensure her guests’ comfort.
Jackie fires her beautiful catenary arch wood kiln roughly every other month during the summer, alongside two electric kilns available for resident use. She also hosts classes in the studio and occasionally invites guest artists for workshops. Jackie is very responsive and approachable, readily available to discuss options with prospective residents.
During my visit, I had a wonderful time meeting Jackie and her woodfiring community. It was a relaxing stay, and I even managed to get some studio time — a rare treat for someone constantly on the road.
I also experienced my first squalls while driving in during January. Despite the storm, the guesthouse felt like a warm sanctuary, so well insulated and thoughtfully constructed that the harsh weather seemed to vanish once inside.
Overall, I can’t recommend this residency enough. The camaraderie of the firing squad, the beauty of the property, and Jackie’s generous spirit make this a truly special place. I look forward to returning again someday!
