The goal of this website is to provide a clear, user-friendly, and reliable resource for artists searching for ceramic residencies that align with their needs, values, and goals. By drawing from firsthand experience and direct research, I hope to make the residency search process more transparent, accessible, and informed for the ceramics community.

About Me
My name is Sean Kennedy, and I am a ceramic artist based in Minnesota. I earned my BFA in Ceramics from the University of Wisconsin–River Falls in spring 2020, where I developed a deep appreciation for clay and the sense of community that surrounds strong ceramic programs.
While in River Falls, I worked with Northern Clay Center as an NCECA intern and later as a seasonal sales and gallery assistant, gaining valuable experience in both the professional and community-facing sides of ceramics. From 2021–2022, I completed an artist residency at Cub Creek Foundation in Virginia, where I expanded my practice through research into native clays and atmospheric firing. I then continued my residency journey in Northern California at the Cobb Mountain Art & Ecology Project (2022–2023), focusing on functional pottery and figurative sculpture within an environmentally driven, rural setting.
Over the past three years, I have traveled extensively to visit, research, and assess ceramic residency programs across the United States. This work has resulted in a comprehensive, curated list of 159 residency programs that support ceramic artists, which forms the foundation of The Residency Review.
